Honoring Peg & Steve Diebold at the Boys & Girls Haven 2025 Legacy Celebration
Fr. Maloney’s Boys & Girls Haven hosted its annual Legacy Celebration at The Olmsted on Friday, November 7, honoring individuals whose compassion and leadership continue to shape the Louisville community. Among this year’s honorees were Peg and Steve Diebold, who were recognized as the recipients of the Nicholas X. Simon Altruism Award.
This award celebrates those who embody the spirit of selfless service and a deep commitment to helping others. Peg and Steve have demonstrated these values throughout their lives. Their generosity, community involvement, and dedication to improving the lives of others reflect the same compassion and integrity that define his leadership at WireCrafters.
Family, friends, and community partners gathered to celebrate the Diebolds’ legacy of kindness and impact. The evening was filled with heartfelt stories and appreciation for the difference Boys and Girls Haven has made in their lives..

“Peg and I are humbled by this recognition from such a tremendous organization. Boys and Girls Haven is one of the few places dedicated to helping children that the Foster Care system has failed. Supporting, counseling, and providing housing—basically providing a home for these kids and then helping them adjust to their future lives living in the adult world. I look at it this way: Peg and I had parents who helped us get our lives started; these kids don’t. Boys & Girls Haven tries to fill that void, and that is why we support them.”
Their recognition carries a special connection to the very roots of Boys & Girls Haven. The organization was founded in 1948 by Father James C. Maloney, who served as chaplain at St. Joseph’s Orphanage, and who was also Steve’s uncle. At that time, boys were considered mature at fourteen and often aged out of the orphanage system, with no place to go and no support to help them succeed. Father Maloney recognized this need and created Boys Haven to provide housing, education, and guidance so they could build stable and independent lives.
Through the decades, the organization expanded to serve both boys and girls, evolving into Boys & Girls Haven, a place that now offers foster care, therapy, and life-skills support for youth across Kentucky. Steve’s family connection to its founder makes this recognition especially meaningful. It represents both a family legacy of compassion and a lifelong commitment to helping others.
WireCrafters proudly congratulates Peg and Steve on receiving the Nicholas X. Simon Altruism Award and thanks them for leading with generosity, faith, and heart. Their example continues to inspire our entire team and the community we serve.
