Project Overview:
Critical equipment failures can bring an entire operation to a stop, especially during extreme weather conditions. After a close call involving material handling equipment near a massive furnace system, one Midwest facility quickly recognized the need to better protect the infrastructure that keeps production running. Container Systems and WireCrafters developed a custom solution designed to provide heavy-duty protection around the facility’s critical HVAC system while still allowing maintenance access within an active industrial environment.
Customer Description
A long-time customer of Container Systems experienced a serious near miss when a portable stackable rack fell from a forklift just feet away from a massive furnace that supports the HVAC system for a facility exceeding 300,000 square feet. At the time, the Midwest was dealing with a polar vortex, and damage to the furnace could have forced the company to shut down production entirely. The incident immediately highlighted the need to protect critical infrastructure inside the facility, and the customer quickly reached out looking for a solution that could shield the furnace from future impact. The close call also shifted the customer’s perspective, reinforcing that while companies often invest heavily in protecting employees, they also need to safeguard the systems and equipment that keep operations running day after day.

After the near miss, the customer wanted an aggressive turnaround to protect the furnace as soon as possible. Working together, CSI and WireCrafters designed a 25-foot-high security fencing system specifically for the application. The team also customized the fencing so panels could be removed when maintenance access was required, allowing the solution to provide protection without limiting serviceability. From initial planning through installation, the entire project was completed in approximately four weeks, delivering the fast response the customer needed to keep operations protected.
