Creating Safer Walkways Near High-Heat Operations
Project Overview:
High-heat industrial environments demand safety solutions that can withstand extreme conditions while protecting employees working nearby. At MOST (Missouri Smelting Technology), a pedestrian walkway positioned near a blast furnace created a serious exposure risk during daily operations. Acme Constructors and Industrial Shelving Systems needed a solution that could help shield workers from potential hazards without limiting visibility in the area. WireCrafters helped develop a custom application tailored to the demanding conditions surrounding furnace operation.
Customer Description
At the MOST facility, a walkway near a blast furnace exposed pedestrians to a potentially dangerous area where molten aluminum could occasionally “burp” from the furnace during operation. The facility needed a solution that would help shield employees using the aisle while still maintaining visibility into the area. To address this hazard, the project incorporated 840 panels with a solid lower section and a Lexan upper panel to provide both protection and a line of sight. The system also included angled overhead posts and framing covered with a fire-resistant blanket to help withstand the demanding environment surrounding the blast furnace.
